Bozzed Brethern and Sistern
Here they are, those brave souls who said, “I love this music and I’m gonna sing it”. Check out their sites, their sounds and the spectacular feats of musicianship they attempt in the name of the Boswell Sound.
The Pfister Sisters
Puttin’ the Sun Back in the Sky since the late 70s, the Pfister Sisters music has the “Authentic, Grade A, New Orleans” stamp on their fabulous sound. Crush a little mint, pour a little bourbon: their great music will provide all the sugar.
The Bovril Sisters
Another Bozzin' bunch from across the pond are the Bovril Sisters, a "three-woman a capella group whose skillful harmonies vividly recapture the spirit of the 30’s in an affectionate recreation of the Boswell Sisters well-loved songs."
Shout Sister
They played Martha, Connie and Vet in the 2001 Old Globe production of "The Boswell Sisters." But even after the show closed, these three busy performers "Just Couldn't Say Goodbye." They began performing as "Shout Sister" and are headed back to the studio to record more of the of the tunes made famous by those syncopating sisters from New Orleans. Yowza!
Boswellmania
Bozzies.com owes a huge debt of gratitude to the research and creative energy that Jan Shapiro, voice department chair at Berklee College, has expended on the Boswell Sisters. Visit her new website and check out her recordings. In 2000, Jan and fellow music educators Lisa Thorson and Adriana Balic, paid homage to the Sisters with the CD "Boswellmania". They use the same arrangements that the Bozzies put together back in the 30s and give us an idea of how the Sisters might sound if they were recording today.
The Boop Sisters
Brava! Bellisima! For those of you who have a smattering of Italian check out the Boop Sisters at http://www.boopsisters.too.it. For those of limited language skills you can see Italy’s charming answer to southern syncopators http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=40252749.
Hogtown Syncopators
Looks like when Vet went to Canada she musta dropped a few seeds of swing. Roll along and sing a song with this Toronto-based swing group the Hogtown Syncopators, featuring brother Mike Daley of the Boswell Sisters blog.
The Stolen Sweets
Bite into this confection and taste how fresh the Boswell Sound is after 70 years! Their new CD is out and they are eager to let you sample their wares. Good stuff!
Swing Rosie
Oh, Canada! Give us your Bozzed Babes! Chantelle Wilson, Shannon Butcher and Kira Callahan make up the popular Toronto based band Swing Rosie. Their repertoire includes a few of our Bozzie faves and they keep it hot and sweet even in those cold Canadian winters.
YazooZazz
YazooZazz is a Bozzie-based ensemble from Arlington, Virginia. This group has been singin’ and swingin' since 1979 when two young singers "discovered" the perfect harmony of our ladies of Camp Street. One of the singers married a band leader and the group is now part of the Tom Cunningham Orchestra. Talk about your marriage made in heaven! Check out their video and their take of "Never Say Never Again, Again."
